PEACE in Action is for YOU!


Do you believe a handful of people can change the world?  PEACE in Action does!  One small act of kindness at a time, PEACE in Action seeks to better the lives of our neighbors on the Eastern Shore, and we need your help.  If you share this belief that ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference, PEACE in Action is for you!

PEACE in Action, a service project we've blogged about here  and here  (in the post that discussed just a few of the twenty-five PEACE 1 Day projects undertaken on March 25th), seeks volunteers every third Saturday of each month for projects that offer service opportunities catering to a variety of interests and all ability levels, both in Salisbury and in surrounding areas.

No experience or special skills are necessary.  Bill VonParis, one of the leaders of PEACE in Action, recently discussed his desire to grow his team of volunteers:  "In May, we have a yard we're going to do, just cleaning up some branches and some things, and I also have another individual who needs a ramp built."  Bill is hoping to knock out both of these projects on the third Saturday in May, the 19th.  The locations for both the clean-up and construction projects are in close proximity, with one taking place in Willards and another in Parsonburg.  The team meets at 8:30 a.m.

The clean-up project will assist a fellow ORBC member, a Celebrate Recovery volunteer who is selfless with her own time and efforts to better our community.  As for the ramp-build, an ORBC member who wishes to remain anonymous has generously purchased all the necessary materials for the recipient--a needy individual undergoing medical struggles who is acquainted with a family member of the ORBC donor.  According to Bill, she has "no organizations working with her, no options as far as family, nobody that would help her... When I called her and told her somebody was taking care of it, she was almost in tears."

While PEACE in Action is making a huge impact on a growing number of community members, Bill expressed his desire to do more, and his great need for additional, reliable volunteers.  "We are currently getting more needs than volunteers," he noted.  That's where you come in!  If there is enough interest, Bill plans to consider adding additional projects to the schedule this May.

ORBC's Danny Guzman Shares Faith with Entire Freshman Class at Wi-Hi

It's not often that public schools open their doors to Christian speakers, allowing them to freely share their faith. But that's exactly what happened when Wicomico High School invited Danny Guzman of ORBC’s “The Landing” to speak to the entire freshman class last month.  In response to the rising opioid crisis in our area, Wi-Hi hosted a symposium designed to assist students in making wise choices.  Themed, "Be a Hero," the focus was on drug awareness, and Danny represented The Landing and ORBC as one of several presenters. PEACE in Action

Ordinary People. Empowered by God. Doing What Jesus Did. Wherever They Are.  These are the words members of Oak Ridge Baptist Church live by when they engage in the PEACE Plan—our church-wide commitment to Promote reconciliation, Equip servant leaders, Assist the poor, Care for the sick, and Educate the next generation.  More than words, however, the PEACE Plan in Action is about showing the love of Jesus in tangible ways in and beyond our community. PEACE in Action is Back!

After a brief hiatus over the holidays, PEACE in Action is back in full force this February. For those of you who haven't heard, PEACE in Action "is when we go out into the community, and we do random acts of kindness," says project coordinator Danny Guzman.  The third Saturday of every month, a group of volunteers meets at Oak Ridge Baptist and then hits the road to bless a community member in need. This month's project is for someone who lives just minutes from the church, someone who is especially deserving.  According to Danny, on Saturday, February 16th, the PEACE in Action team will give back to an upstanding "senior citizen in our community, who has been a cornerstone in our community for so long.   Her name is Nancy MacDonald, Mama Mac.  She was a teacher at Bennett High.  She used to be the lacrosse coach.  And so she spent a lot of time pouring into students, for most of her life, actually.  But a couple years back, she had a major st...
